Posing in a Ballroom [Master Post]
Look, it's a master post! How wonderful it is to have things organised!
Posing in a Ballroom
Hearts colliding with others hearts

Biography. Of the, uh, story.
The idea came to me back in February and was not really my own. The source gives the wrong impression of the actual story, but I will put it in anyway. I was reading
bandslashsecret because, well, I'm a sucker for those comms, and I saw this. “Huh,” I thought, “I'd totally read that.” (Note: Posing is not Hilton-esque, which sounds like a bimbo comedy in the making. Posing is toned down and dark and follows the struggles of four guys who live privileged lives.) At the time I was working on another story, The Black Rose Season, and I had time for little else during the obsessive writing process. But the idea of our boys being rich and fabulous (and oh so troubled) kept mulling in the back of my brain. And so, once TBRS was done and posted, the characters started yelling at me to write them. So I did.
Warnings.
I will list any sensitive issues that come up in the story so that readers are aware of these themes (in case some issues are sensitive to some readers). It sounds long, but the fic is long too. Drug abuse and addiction, alcohol, graphic gay sex, vague het sex, sort-of-incest, eating disorders, bondage, mild violence. These warnings will not be repeated elsewhere.
Disclaimer.
None of this is real, none of this has ever happened. The story includes at times subconscious incorporations of lyrics by a variety of bands, artists and lyricists, including Gareth Campesinos!, Morrissey, Tim Kasher, Roberth Smith, Ryan Ross, Spencer Krug and probably even more. Those bits belong to them, and not me.
Thank you.
Thanks to my flist for putting up with me talking about this endlessly. Thank you
delustre,
smashapumpkin1,
buildyourwalls,
babycomeback2me,
of_catalyst and whoever else listened to me rant or helped me along the way. Thanks to
rememberthedays for NYC insider information and letting me harass her. Thanks to
justranda and
_sugar for short-notice beta services! Special thanks to
spazzyskittles for being such an amazing beta and putting so much time and effort into this. I am forever grateful. <3
Lastly, endless love goes to my testing audience. Thanks to
st_andrews_fall for being greedy, for pouting, and for being just a bit perverted. Also thanks to The Big Jurassic Tree Who Sways In The Background A Hell Of A Lot, who let me use her laptop when mine broke, who told me to “Write faster!” and called Ryan and Brendon assholes. I couldn’t have done it without your feedback, patience and tough love.
This one goes out to the person who posted that secret. My apologies, random person, that it took so long.

Posing in a Ballroom has been one girl's serious (and often victorious) attempt to neglect studies, exams and essays in the autumn months of 2008.
To every single person who stumbles upon this post - thank you! (For reading or for considering it. Whatever rocks your boat.)
